About This Spot

Stepping into The Makan, nestled in Seoul’s vibrant Songpa District, feels like finding a quiet corner of Malaysia tucked away within the city’s pulse. The atmosphere hums with a warm, unhurried energy — part laid-back neighborhood spot, part welcoming escape from the bustle nearby. Soft conversations mingle with the clink of dishes, inviting you to settle in and savor moments that unfold slowly and naturally.

The space itself is thoughtfully welcoming, reflecting a subtle balance between casual comfort and a touch of inviting charm. It’s easy to imagine returning here for a relaxed lunch break or a laid-back dinner accompanied by friends or family, soaking in familiar flavors that feel like a gentle nod to home, especially for those seeking halal choices not far from Lotte World.

At The Makan, food is never merely a list of dishes but a narrative of connections. The kitchen weaves memorable experiences through the vivid character of sambal-spiced plates, the soothing warmth of Teh Tarik, or the playful finish of fried bananas that whisper of shared stories and simple pleasures. Each bite carries an honest, unpretentious comfort — a reminder that food anchors us to moments and memories beyond just taste.

What stands out as much as the menu is the attentive, personal touch of the staff. They don’t just serve food; they share a part of their world, offering helpful suggestions about the city and creating a sense of being genuinely looked after. This thoughtful hospitality adds softness to the experience, making The Makan more than a place to eat — it becomes a little haven for meaningful connection.

Went to this recently opened Malaysian restaurant (The Makan) today in Jamsil and the food was really yummy. They have lunch break at 2:30pm and also not open on Sundays. If anyone is missing home and want some comfort food, go check it out #freethingsmusttake #goodthingsmustshare #noimnotsponsored

An authentic Malaysian food restaurant. It serves sate, nasi lemak, sotong, pisang goreng. Delicious. The staff also very helpful, not only help with the food and drinks, but also suggestions about where to go around Seoul. The place was easy to find and the atmosphere was nice.

My first time trying Malaysian food. I am not sure the taste of the authentic one but Nasi Lemak that I tried taste too light and rather sweet especially the sambal. As an Indonesian who usually eat spicy and flavorful food, this is below my expectations. I would give rating 7.5/10. Pisang goreng....hmmm...the banana used here is not usually used for Pisang goreng. That's why it's too soft. The ambient of restaurant is quite comfy and warm due to incandescent lamp.

Delicious food with generous serving. Well presented and taste sure hits home. Highly recommended if you’re looking for halal food near Lotte world mall or with relaxing atmosphere.

Ambiemce was good as well as staff were readily there to assist, order taken and promotor served. Highly recommended and amazingly the food is real , authentic Malay Cuisine just like back home.
